PMC Designs - Tome Pages
Create one or the whole series of Tome pages as
perfectly described by this talented artist,
Patti Medaris Culea:
Cover
Three figures make up the front cover
of the Tome. Simple applique is used along
with adding snippets, free motion machine
embroidery and beading to embellish the
women. The back cover shows the
beginnings of using Tyvek. This technique
will be dealt with in depth later on
in the pattern series.
|
Tome 2 - Photo Transfer & Windows
This is actually the first page for your Tome. Various photo transfer
techniques are discussed along with adding "windows" to frame your
photos. A pocket doll emerges wearing some smaller "windows".
|
| |
Tome 3 - Fibre Collage
Can be both traditional and contemporary.
This Tome explores both. The Summer
side uses traditional collage but Winter
(photo inside pattern) uses Tyvek,
cellophane, organza, paint to create a unique
scene. All of the explored techniques can
be used in many different mediums - doll
making, quilting, wearables.
|
Tome 4 - Painting & Stamping
From the sea to the earth, this pattern takes you through a
fun journey of painting and stamping. Side one creates a mermaid
sitting on a rock holding a shell. The pocket doll emerges again,
only this time she's a wee mermaid. A template is provided
for the mermaid scene. Side two is more earthy, freer. Doilies,
lace, trim, textured fabrics are stitched onto fabric then painted.
More stitching is done to create your scene.
|
| |
Tome 5 - Beading
This project explores several beading techniques. Bead embroidery, sculptural peyote
stitch, fringe, picots, edgings, spikes, flowers. Great fun and
very easy. Side one has a chubby dancing woman frolicking through a
flower field holding a vine of grapes. The template for the woman
is included in the pattern along with instructions on how to paint
and bead her. Side two uses a printed fabric that is then beaded
using bead embroidery techniques. A photo transfer adds interest to
the page.
|
Tome 6 - Velvet
Velvet is such a fun fibre to work. In this pattern we'll use both
synthetic and silk/rayon velvets. The synthetic side has a pocket doll
made from velvet and the techniques included are: burning, bonding,
embossing, stitching. The reverse side uses a silk/rayon mix
velvet that is dyed and includes use of Angelina and Crystalina
and foiling.
|
| |
Tome 7 - Needlelace
An ancient technique comes alive using contemporary
threads and designs. This pattern has a more traditional
side for page one using hand needlelace stitches but metallic
and fun threads for those stitches. Plastic drapery rings
are covered and used as accents along with shisha mirrors.
Side two is an autumn scene with machine needlelaced laves.
|
Tome 8 - Machine & Hand Embroidery
A fun fairy theme is created for this page. One side has a funky
fairy house that a wee fairy paper doll resides. Only she's made from
Ultra Suede or felt. The other side is a garden that the fairy can
wander through.
|
| |
Tome 9 - Tyvek, Cellophane, Organza
Side one of this page uses heat transfer inks, Tyvek and snippets
of threads, yarns, organza to create a fun scene where Native American
children play hide and seek. Side two uses a photo transfer surrounded
by burned out organza, netting and plastic shopping bags. Both sides include
instructions on creating beads from Tyvek and organza.
|
Tome 10 - Feltwork
Side one uses Kunin, or synthetic felt pieces
to create a figure and fun background. This felt
is heated to create the holes and lace effect. Felt
beads are made using the same technique as Tyvek beads.
You'll make your own felt from wool on side two. This
is a very easy project to explore felt making if you've
never done it before. Beads are also created using the
felting technique.
|
| |
Tome 11 - Silkwork
Silk is a fun fibre to work with and this page includes several techniques. Side
one uses photo transfer onto silk fabric, a wee silk doll, creating a
silk "sandwich" and a silk ATC (Artist Trading Card). Side two is
silk collage using silk rods, silk waste, silk threads, silk chiffon,
silk noil, etc. This pattern also includes the instructions for binding
the entire Tome.

Tome Arca 12

stamping, etc.
