How to make slashed fabric

The following instructions will show you how to create slashed fabric panels that can be put together to make a lovely slash quilt, placemat or a bag as pictured below.

Slash quilt - step 1.

Step 1

Overlap several layers of fabric - choose colours so that when the fabric layers are slashed, the layers of colour exposed create the effect you require for your item.

Step 2

Use a sewing machine to sew evenly-spaced lines through the layers of fabrics in the direction of the fabric bias.

Step 3

Insert the slash cutter guide into a channel between two stitching lines. (Place the guide on top of the bottom fabric.)

Slash quilt - step 4.

Step 4

Use one hand to hold down the fabrics and push the slash cutter forward to make the cut. If the initial cut is difficult, use scissors to make a 2 - 3 cm cut first. After all cuts have been completed, wash fabrics in a washing machine to create the fluffy, tufted look.
