Schedule as at: Sat 04 Jul 2009
Unless specified otherwise, all sessions are held in our store
10:00am - 4:00pm. denotes a new class.
Have a good idea for a class or particular area of
interest? Contact us
and we will check out the possibility of a workshop.
We would also like to know of teachers of interest to you.
This drawing portraits class using different mediums and techniques: pencil, charcoal and pastel.
The class includes a live model in the afternoon session.
Requirements are minimal.
We all have seven major chakras or spinning vortices
which feed colour into our bodies to be used as energy. These
correspond to the seven rainbow colours and each has their
specialised functions. Come along and have fun making
your own chakra doll. Learn about the qualities and attributes
of each chakra and how colour can be used to make you healthier
and more balanced.
Make a beautiful, soft, scarf whilst learning the basic technique of wet
felting. Requirements are minimal—results are maximum! All you
need are wool tops (available from the shop), two old
towels, a plastic bottle with a hole in the lid and a couple of
plastic shopping bags.
This fun and easy to do bracelet makes an excellent first
project and will be a colourful addition to your jewellery
collection. Two basic stitches will be covered: Ladder
and Flat Ndebele stitch.
Using a selection of mixed media techniques, participants
will create a recipe book themed journal with bound signatures
(a signature is a bookbinding term used to describe the
groups of pages that make up a book).
In this class you will learn how to create mixed media
collage by layering with fabric, tissue, stitch and paint.
You will use supplied images (or BYO) to build up the
journal cover image and further layer with paint techniques
which add texture and washes of colour. Finally, decorated papers
will be bound into your cover and further collage elements added. Techniques
learnt in this workshop can be transferred to many different art/craft
applications.
Sew Your Way into Fashion - 4 x 2.5h Dressmaking Classes
Teacher(s):
Connie Wheeler
When:
Starts Monday 13 July 2009 for four weeks
Cost:
$160.00 ($145.45 ex-GST)
More and more women are making their own clothes. Why?
While the first reason today may be economy, women
are finding that sewing is a way to express themselves, a
wonderful way to do 'one's own thing' and apply your
imagination. From selecting the pattern, correct fabric and
design, the creative side is brought out in each individual.
Dressmaking will give you the opportunity to make garments
that will make you look your best. These classes will teach you
how to select the right pattern for your figure type and
how to construct garments in a professional manner. Learn
how to make wonderful garments that last!
If you loved the fabulous pieces Carole has in our instore
exhibition you will love this workshop. You can make your
own unique coiled wire necklace using beads, wire, fabric,
thread, mixed media and hand stitching.
Join Fern in this new workshop to discover the secrets to
successful layering of colour and fabric and how to pull
the piece together with creative and simple stitch. A
beautiful sample piece is in the shop—if you have a
chance drop in and take a look.
Are you game to leave the beaten track and explore the
possibilities? Many of you have embellisher machines (needle
felting machines) sitting in the cupboard gathering dust.
We will be making innovative pieces to incorporate in mixed
media work. Come and play with us!
Join this wonderful, gentle teacher in creating works of
art using stitch and watercolours. Mounted on
watercolour paper, your artwork moves into a whole new
dimension.
Tuesdays 15, 22 & 29 September 2009; 10:30am - 3:30pm
Cost:
$180.00 ($163.64 ex-GST)
Would you like to learn how to use your sewing machine as an
art tool? Then this is the course for you. Whatever type of
sewing machine you own, even if it has no inbuilt stitch
patterns, you can use it to create stunning embroideries to
decorate your clothes, furnish your home or hang on your walls.
Course will include:
setting up your machine,
different stitch patterns,
changing top and bottom bobbin tensions,
the correct needles and threads to use,
sewing beads on by machine and
much, much, more.
Materials: a sewing machine in good working order,
basic sewing notions, threads and fabric.
This group is for people who may have been
ill or are having a tough time at the
moment or who, for whatever reason, are
unable to participate in workshops. Bring along
an activity you would like some help with or some ideas of
what you would like to learn. The group is
basically a 'skills exchange' and social gathering. So
if you feel like a little company please join us. Even
if you're not having a 'blue period' but would like
to join us anyway, feel free.
We will schedule a number of classes in
this time where group members will teach us a
skill they have perfected!
Bookings essential. Please contact us to register yourself and/or someone you know would
love to attend as we have limited classroom space.

Note: Cost is per session for wage earners. If you are unwaged, it is 50% of the cost shown.
Finally a UFO (unfinished objects) group
for all those fabulous dolls just waiting
to be finished! Join this small friendly
group under Robyn's guidance to
complete projects or to learn new skills.
For people who are already well versed in the basics, this
group will help you to extend your stitch range and competency. A new
stitch or technique will be demonstrated each month. There will also
be room here for problem solving or difficulties encountered.
Note: The current groups we have running are currently booked out. Please get in touch
to have your name added to our waiting list.
This is a group similar in principle to
the 'block a month' concept used in quilting. As you work
through each pattern you will actually be creating a
beautiful textile book and box.
The 12-set series covers
a different textile art technique each month along
with the basics of cloth dollmaking. Series includes applique,
photo transfers, fabric collage and much more
(check out Patti's Tomes patterns for a detailed outline).
Participants are required to purchase their
own copy of the patterns which we have instore and this
includes the list of requirements (most of which
you will have in your sewing box). We also supply
lots of extras, tuition and delectable
morning and afternoon teas.
Past groups have had a great time and participants are producing some
fabulous pieces (see our Gallery).
We hope to have more of them on display so you can see what they've been up
to. Come and join us!
Item ID: C000001-0
Note:
cost is per group session which pays for instruction from the group leader(s), morning and afternoon tea,
some embellishments and use of materials and equipment as necessary
each member is required to buy their own Tome patterns
We are often asked if we would run specific workshops
for groups of friends and the answer is yes!
With many of our supporters being in Melbourne and
other regional centres it is often difficult to make it to
classes. If you and a few of your friends would
like to do a class we have offered, we would be
happy to arrange it. Depending on the teacher
and related costs, we would require 4 - 6 people
to go ahead. As many of you do have accommodation
this may not be an issue, but if not, we have
access to reasonable accommodation if you
require it.
We will also be offering weekend retreats at some stage—contact us for further details.
Most of our classes are currently held instore on
Saturdays. We have had a number of requests for classes to be held in the evenings
or during the week. Most of our teachers would be available
if we had the numbers. These classes could include:
felting
cloth dolls and art dolls
embroidery
knitting
crochet
altered books and journal making
...and much more
Please contact us to register your interest if you would
be available at these times and we will schedule classes.

Classroom Policy
Our classroom is a perfume-free, friendly to all environment.
This should enable staff, participants and teachers—particularly those sensitive to
perfumes and other chemical-based products—to enjoy time
together without allergic reactions such as migraines, sinusitis or breathing problems.
So in the best interests of all, please
don't be offended if you are asked to leave your perfume home for the day.
Your fellow artists will be very grateful! Thank you.
